‘ Del-Gowrie ’ & the Horse Print Story

Hi, I’m Kay! I grew up on a large cattle property in Western Queensland.  My mother was an incredibly special lady - the greatest mother a child could ever have. Mum’s love for gardening and cooking was an absolute inspiration to me.  Mum taught me how to cook, from the kitchen to the camp ovens - baking cakes, making rice puddings, roasts, damper… You name it, Mum cooked it!

Growing up I spent many hours fishing with my grandfather on the creek beds and dams.  We would catch the fish and crayfish, and Mum and Nana would cook them up!

My father was country born and bred, a true old bushy.  From when I was tiny my dad would take me for rides in the horse and sulky around the paddocks, mustering on my little pony from daylight to dark, just helping Dad.  I loved every minute of it, listening and learning everything I could - from how to catch my horse, saddle them, muster, draft, brand - everything that needed to be done on a property.

When I got older, I followed in my Dad’s footprints and wanted to show jump just like my father.  Dad and I would go and buy horses, horses and more horses! “Do you think he will make a jumper, Dad?” I would ask him.  For many years I competed in the show jumping and Dad was often the judge.  This was very much a family thing - Mum, Dad, my sister, brother and myself, along with our grandparents, cousins, aunts and uncles, would all go off and compete on the show circuit.  We would set off with truck load of horses, usually about 4 head of stud cattle on the truck, and Mum would follow in the car, towing the caravan!

On the 12th of October 1999, Dad was inducted into the Equine Hall of Fame for Show Jumping.  Dad’s photo also hangs proudly in the Glenvale Room at the Toowoomba Show Grounds for all to see.

This is the foundation of Horse Print - family love, gardening, cooking, fishing, camping, horses and cattle.  To be totally blessed to have a beautiful up-bringing, I now would love to be able to share with others part of the adventure.

So if this sounds like fun and something you would like to do, no matter how old or how young, we would love you to come and visit our friendly farm at ‘Del-Gowrie’.

With love,

Kay
